Nurse IV / Nurse Manager

The Nurse Manager performs advanced (senior-level) nursing functions such as planning, developing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the provision of nursing care on a 24-hour basis, directs day-to-day operations of assigned areas, and works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, directs, and manages daily operations and activities of the assigned nursing area in accordance with HHSC policies, state and federal rules, and professional standards.
- Establishes, implements, and evaluates nursing staffing plans that ensure continuous (24/7) availability of nursing staff to meet individual care needs and comply with regulatory and professional standards.
- Assesses and develops assignments for direct-care nurses based on individual needs and care complexity to assure safe and quality care.
- Hires, trains, and promotes professional growth of assigned nurses; conducts performance evaluations and oversees staff development plans.
- Provides clinical direction and ensures nursing care is based on provider orders and meets specialized individual needs; oversees nursing performance indicators and takes corrective action as needed.
- Participates in performance improvement and quality assurance activities, including monitoring indicators, conducting peer reviews, and reviewing serious incidents.
- Oversees implementation of nursing policies, procedures, and protocols; conducts periodic rounds/observations and chart reviews/audits.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders (e.g., advocacy groups, surveyors) to support integrated treatment and program mission.
- Ensures systematic capture, review, analysis, communication, and follow-up of significant events (e.g., medication errors, adverse drug reactions, unauthorized departures).
- Provides treatment to HHS employees injured in the course and scope of employment.
- Actively participates in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation as assigned, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
Requirements
- Knowledge of nursing techniques, standards, and procedures; health care laws and regulations; medical diagnoses and procedures; accepted medical treatment patterns; community health and nursing care principles; program regulations and procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize, direct, and manage nursing operations on a 24-hour basis while ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
- Skill in hiring, training, evaluating, and developing nursing staff to maintain a competent workforce.
- Proficiency in performance improvement, quality assurance, and data analysis to identify patterns and trends in nursing care delivery.
- Capacity to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, individuals, families, and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to participate in disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation, including potential alternate shift assignments.

Pay
$8,300.00 – $10,785.83 per month.
Schedule
Full-time, day shift. May include extended shifts, rotating schedules, or overtime as needed. Participation in disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
