About the Role
The Nurse Extern I supports patient care under RN supervision, assisting with direct patient activities in line with hospital policies.
Responsibilities
- Recognizes and reports life-threatening situations
- Assists with basic life support
- Observes and reports abnormal symptoms, patient/family concerns, and changes in condition
- Ensures aseptic techniques and follows universal precautions
- Accurately documents patient information and use of supplies
- Supports laboratory specimen handling
- Adheres to safety, infection control, and HIPAA policies
- Participates in in-service programs and departmental meetings
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Practical nursing skills and basic clinical knowledge
- Must complete NCLEX within six months of graduation if applicable
- AHA BLS certification required within two weeks of hire
- Preferred experience: hospital clinical exposure
- Demonstrates professionalism in dress, hygiene, and safety protocols
