Nurse Extern Surgical Med Surg

Medical City Dallas, a 895‑plus‑bed tertiary care center and part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Nurse Extern for a PRN night shift (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.) on the Med‑Surg unit. This role offers hands‑on experience supporting the full scope of the Registered Nurse role while you continue your nursing education.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care by assisting with activities of daily living, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Perform basic nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other procedures as you develop competency.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to maintain seamless, coordinated patient care.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery.
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection‑prevention practices, managing equipment, and keeping an organized environment.
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with your supervisor or preceptor to build a personal career development plan.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Enrollment in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
• Completion of Foundation, Fundamental, or Med‑Surg I clinical coursework.

Schedule

PRN night shift, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m.
