About the Role

Chippenham Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN Orthopedic Spine to join its nursing team. As a Nurse Extern, you will gain hands‑on experience while supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate care and building the skills needed for a future Registered Nurse role.

Chippenham Hospital is a 460‑plus‑bed acute‑care facility in Richmond, known for orthopedics, joint care, behavioral health, cardiovascular care, and recognized as a Level I Burn and Trauma Center.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care by assisting with activities of daily living, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery.
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection‑prevention practices, managing equipment, and keeping an organized environment.
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.
• Current enrollment in an RN program.
• No travel required.
• No prior experience required.

Pay

Hourly wage estimate: $16.02 – $22.43 per hour. The typical candidate is hired below the midpoint of the range. Actual salary may vary based on specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
