About the Role

A Nurse Extern at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, part of HCA Healthcare, offers hands-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll deliver safe, compassionate care while building skills and confidence to advance in your nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential care for patients by assisting with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as competency grows.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless patient care.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery.
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and keeping spaces organized.
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with supervisors or preceptors to build a personal career development plan.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Completion of Fundamentals of Nursing course.
