About the Role

A Nurse Extern at HCA Florida Palms West Hospital provides hands-on experience as part of the nursing team, delivering safe, compassionate care while building skills and confidence to advance in your nursing program. This role allows you to explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential care for patients, including assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as competency grows.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless patient care.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery.
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and keeping the environment organized.
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with supervisors or preceptors to build a personal career development plan.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing.
• 1+ years of nursing school completed (preferred).
• Ability to perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved.

The Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient care services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

About the Facility

HCA Florida Palms West Hospital is a 204-bed facility in Palm Beach County offering preventative and elective programs, emergency services, a dedicated New Life Center, and a Level II NICU. The hospital includes a full-service Children’s Hospital, outpatient rehabilitation, an aquatics center, an orthopedic spine center, robotics, and interventional radiology.
