Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary patient care team to support safe, high-quality patient care.
- Provides direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
- Aids patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, elimination, and ambulation.
- Aids with patient transfers, admissions, discharges, and other care activities as needed.
- Provides patient and family education based on age, culture, developmental level, and identified learning needs.
- Advocates for the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of patients.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and critical thinking while functioning within the Nurse Extern scope of practice.
- Participates in departmental performance improvement, safety, and quality initiatives.
- Assists with orientation and training activities as assigned.
- Attends required meetings, educational programs, and competency validations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Applicants should be a third-year nursing student or higher and be enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing.
- Required certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
- Required skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
- Experience: One-year previous experience preferred.
- Licenses: Must have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license.
- Education: Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in a nursing program.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
