Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary patient care team to support safe, high-quality patient care.
• Provides direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
• Aids patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, elimination, and ambulation.
• Aids with patient transfers, admissions, discharges, and other care activities as needed.
• Provides patient and family education based on age, culture, developmental level, and identified learning needs.
• Advocates for the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of patients.
• Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and critical thinking while functioning within the Nurse Extern scope of practice.
• Participates in departmental performance improvement, safety, and quality initiatives.
• Assists with orientation and training activities as assigned.
• Attends required meetings, educational programs, and competency validations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Applicants should be a third-year nursing student or higher and be enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing.
• Required certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• Required skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
• Experience: One-year previous experience preferred.
• Licenses: Must have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license.
• Education: Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a nursing program.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
