Nurse Extern - 5S Oncology Unit

About the role
An opportunity to join Trinity Health Oakland Hospital as a Contingent Nurse Extern. You will function as a collaborative member of the health care team in partnership with and under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), providing basic direct patient care to a specific group of patients on the 5 South Oncology Unit. This role requires a commitment of four 12-hour shifts per month.

Responsibilities
- Perform basic direct patient care to a specific group of patients under the supervision of an RN.
- Actively support the activities of the unit-based shared governance council.
- Promote organizational commitment and excellence in patient care experience.
- Comply with standards of professional behavior within nursing.
Requirements
- Currently attending and in good standing at an accredited school of nursing.
- Must maintain continuous "active" student status.
- Must have successfully completed two (2) clinical nursing rotations, of which one was a Medical/Surgical rotation.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support Certification).
Skills
- Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age-specific needs.
- Interpersonal skills to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Critical thinking skills to perform principal duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing patient care.
