Nurse Educator / Infection Prevention RN

About the role

Join our Wilmington Treatment Center team as a full-time Nurse Educator / Infection Prevention RN. This day-shift role operates Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

Wilmington Treatment Center is North Carolina’s premier addiction rehab center and recovery hospital, offering a complete continuum of care that includes detox, rehab services, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programming (IOP) to help patients reach their goals. The facility has been voted one of the top substance use disorder treatment facilities in the country for five consecutive years and holds the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of approval.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement education plans, identify learning needs, and lead new-hire orientation from a clinical perspective.
• Facilitate ongoing training programs and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
• Model best practices and engage staff in evidence-based education to enhance professional competency and patient safety.
• Conduct orientation that fosters a positive learning environment and promotes employee retention.
• Participate in designing educational activities to address practice gaps for licensed and non-licensed healthcare personnel.
• Assess practice gaps, crosswalk competencies to practice, and collaborate with leadership to review outcomes data.
• Develop and deliver didactic content and clinical skills training for designated competencies.
• Align educational programs with facility and organizational policies and procedures.
• Implement and deliver educational curricula as required by regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission, CARF, CMS, and state agencies.
• Create engaging, evidence-based educational content tailored to the intended audience.
• Serve as a general resource for nursing staff and collaborate with medical practitioners and leadership to incorporate nursing processes into patient care plans.
• Provide educational leadership to patients and care providers to enhance specialized patient care within established clinical protocols.
• Promote safe, quality, and compassionate patient care and assist patients and caregivers with education needs, problem-solving, and health management across the continuum of care.
• Educate direct patient-care staff in the use of equipment and supplies, and coordinate in-service training for appropriate staff.
• Support innovation in educational design and provide staff with resources and “just-in-time” education to implement immediate changes.
• May serve in the role of infection preventionist for the facility with training and may provide direct care as needed.

Other Functions

• Provide expertise in identifying professional development needs of individual staff and assist staff in identifying areas for growth.
• Identify and provide opportunities for skill enhancement and mastery using the novice-to-expert continuum.
• Promote certification in areas of nursing specialty.
• Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements

• Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, education, or other clinical field preferred; bachelor’s degree in nursing or commensurate experience required.
• Five or more years of experience strongly preferred; three years as a registered nurse required.
• Inpatient psychiatry experience as an RN strongly preferred.
• Two years of behavioral health experience as an RN required.
• One or more years of experience in clinical education, training, and development preferred.
• Certification as an NPD practitioner and/or clinical certification recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center preferred.

Licenses / Designations / Certifications

• Current state RN license required.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by the facility).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
