About the role

This position, under the supervision of the Deputy Executive Director, involves regulating prelicensure nursing education in Oklahoma. Responsibilities include interacting with city, state, and federal agencies, and providing education on the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act and related laws.

Responsibilities

• Provide written and verbal education on the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act (ONPA) and its Rules to prelicensure nursing education programs, deans, directors, coordinators, staff, applicants, licensees, employers, students, and the public.
• Evaluate and consult with prelicensure nursing education programs (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Registered Nurse, and Licensed Practical Nurse) and Advanced Unlicensed Assistive Personnel training programs to ensure compliance with statutes and rules.
• Conduct surveys and review national nursing accreditation reports; prepare reports for the Board based on findings.
• Coordinate follow-up and interim reports with nursing education programs as defined by law or requested by the Board.
• Collect and analyze data related to nursing education issues to identify trends and future needs; provide scheduled reports to the Deputy Executive Director.
• Respond to surveys related to prelicensure nursing education.
• Participate in the strategic planning process and annual evaluation of the division.
• Study proposed state legislation and rules pertaining to nursing education; report potential effects on nursing regulation to the Deputy Executive Director.
• Review and propose changes to Board policies and guidelines annually.
• Participate in relevant Board advisory committee meetings.
• Act as a liaison with other state agencies and entities.
• Collaborate with professional staff to coordinate and perform regulatory functions.
• Prepare reports for workshops, conferences, and meetings attended as delegated.
• Interface with stakeholders through local, state, regional, and national meetings related to nursing education and regulation.
• Convey a positive and professional image for the Agency in interactions with applicants, licensees, agencies, and co-workers.
• Manage a safety education program within the agency.
• Represent the Oklahoma Board of Nursing as directed.
• Perform other activities delegated by the Deputy Executive Director.

Requirements

• Unencumbered, current Oklahoma RN license.
• Master’s degree in nursing.
• Ten years of experience as a registered nurse, with four years in an administrative leadership position in a nursing education program (baccalaureate-level or higher preferred).
• Current Oklahoma driver’s license.
• Ability and willingness to perform job-related travel, including overnight stays and travel by car or air.

Skills

• Knowledge of state and federal laws and rules pertaining to education and nursing education.
• Knowledge of nursing curriculum development, evaluation, and national accreditation standards.
• Proficiency with computers, email, internet, and document-processing software.
• Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, including presenting to large groups.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Skill in managing multiple assignments, including handling a large volume of telephone calls, emails, and letters under strict deadlines.

Pay

$90,000 - $100,000
