REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • RN with bachelor’s in nursing
  • Four years of clinical RN experience
  • Affirmed specialty certification
  • Current Texas RN license or valid temporary permit to practice
  • Current BLS required

JOB SUMMARY

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

  • Nursing Process: Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient care.
  • Identifies nursing diagnoses/patient care needs.
  • Develops and individualizes care plan and revises plan as needed.
  • Executes physician's orders for all assigned patients.
  • Administers medications and treatments and delivers competent nursing care.
  • Performs routine technical procedures/skills in specialty area.

PATIENT/FAMILY TEACHING & HEALTH PROMOTION

  • Provides patient/family instruction and healthcare teaching.
  • Identifies potential impact of family dynamics.
  • Uses evidence-based resources to provide patient/family education.
  • Uses Teach-Back to determine effectiveness and modify strategies as needed.

CARE COORDINATION & DELEGATION

  • Plans, coordinates, and prioritizes patient care activities.
  • Maintains safety and continuity of care.
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills.
  • Demonstrates competent use of technology in delivering patient care.

PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE

  • Ethics (legal/regulatory): Identifies ethical situations and seeks assistance to resolve.
  • Advocacy & Culturally Congruent Care: Delivers culturally sensitive care.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Supports a healthy work environment and demonstrates respectful communication.

  • Completes the UTMB/Vizient™ Nurse Residency Program and completes an evidence-based practice project as required.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of accessing and utilizing evidence-based resources.

Quality, Resources & Safety

  • Identifies patient safety concerns and reports appropriately.

  • Engages in discussions and activities related to unit goals.

SALARY RANGE

Salary commensurate with experience.
