Schedule
Two 12-hour shifts (7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.) every Saturday/Sunday or Friday/Saturday. Work 24 hours per week and receive pay for 36 hours per week under the Weekend Premium Position (WEPP) plan.
About the Role
Registered Nurses in the Adult Medicine/Pulmonary Services Unit on Chandler 6 North and 6 East at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for adult patients who are moderately stable, with fluctuating acuity, complex needs, and frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular, and neurological conditions.
Responsibilities
- Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care, including assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care.
- Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).
- Adhere to University policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
- Support collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes.
- Utilize the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care.
Requirements
- Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider, valid for at least 6 months after employment.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- No prior experience required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently.
- Stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time.
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs and priority within Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, as well as Swanson’s Caring model.
- Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills.
- Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet.
- Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, families, coworkers, and physicians.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and confident in advocating for patients and their families.
- Enjoys working in a strong team environment with open, honest communication.
- Exceptional technical skills and ability to work both independently and in a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- At least one year of RN experience.
