Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient, outpatient, emergent and ICU care onboard for guests and crew of all ages.
- As advised by Charge Nurse, check, and maintain all medical equipment, coordinating with relevant parties when supply orders and repairs are necessary.
- Coordinate and implement onboard health education in conjunction with medical staff.
- Triage emergency calls, assess and treat on scene and transfer patients to shipboard medical center for definitive care.
- Ensure confidentiality of medical information.
- Aid with implementation of crew immunization programs.
- Perform various technical and non-clinical administrative tasks that support the efficient and safe operation of the medical center under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse.
- Participate in regular training for clinical skills sustainment and skill acquisition.
- Participate in a rotational schedule for on-call nurse duties in an overnight capacity as the initial first responder for medical situations onboard.
- Collaborate closely with shoreside leadership and medical teams.
Qualifications
- Nursing degree from recognized college or university from an STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) approved country.
- Active nursing license granted by an accredited licensing authority in a country recognized under STCW standards.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent professional nursing experience, including at least 18 months in high-acuity settings such as Emergency Medicine, Trauma Care, or Critical Care.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ALCS) Certificates required prior to embarking the vessel must be valid through length of contract.
- Comprehensive knowledge of emergency triage protocols and critical care procedures.
- Initial first responder to emergency calls, perform on-site assessment and treatment, and transfer patients to the medical center for further care.
- Perform diagnostic procedures, including preforming X-rays and laboratory tests.
- Digital literacy, experience with MS Office programs and experience with use of electronic health records.
- Maintain clinical proficiency in Emergency Care, ICU, and/or CCU practices during standby periods or breaks.
