Nurse

This position is responsible for the medical supervision and health care of students and staff in the assigned school. The candidate should possess the knowledge required to ensure basic health services are available during the school day, with the ability to work well with teachers, parents, and school staff, and have effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assessment and treatment within the scope of professional nursing practice.
• Communication with parents, referral to physicians, and provision or supervision of prescribed nursing care.
• Development of individualized health care plans for students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma), including emergency plans for potential events in the school setting.
• Alignment of health plans with pediatrician-directed management plans, regularly updated through close communication.
• Management and communication of health plans to all appropriate school personnel.
• Provision of school health services for children with special health needs, including chronic illnesses and disabilities.
• Direct care to students and staff.
• Compliance with school district policies and state laws regarding administration of medicine to students.
• Implementation of school health care plans as directed by health care professionals.
• Maintenance of confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
• Maintenance of student health records (immunization history, medication and contact logs, etc.).
• Monitoring of health care plans to address students' health needs and implement directions from parents and/or physicians.
• Participation in meetings, workshops, and seminars, including IEP meetings, to share information and improve skills/knowledge.
• Participation in emergency drills (e.g., lockdowns, safety meetings, evacuation plans, crisis team).
• Preparation of written materials (medication logs, compliance reports, student activities, etc.).
• Reporting of incidents and students with contagious diseases to maintain safety and a positive learning environment.
• Response to emergency situations to address immediate health and safety concerns.
• Practice in accordance with Substitute Teacher Service, Inc. Paraprofessional Handbook policies and school district policies.

Requirements

• Valid PA School Nurse Certification, RN or LPN License (based upon position and district).
• Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) that is clean and less than 5 years old.
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) that is clean and less than 5 years old.
• FBI Criminal History Record that is clean and less than 5 years old.
• Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than 3 months old.
• 3 professional references (contact information) and/or letters.
• A resume.
• Routing number and account number for direct deposit setup.
• 2 valid forms of identification for I-9.

Note: Clearances cannot be older than 5 years; however, some districts may require new clearances that are less than 1 year old.

Physical Requirements

• Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
• Ability to quickly trail any student that elopes.
• Moderate lifting from 15-35 pounds.
• Moving of various items up to 30 pounds.
• Manual dexterity to use office equipment.
• Ability to write legibly.
• Vision (Near, Color, Depth Perception).
• Sense of Sound (Ability to hear fire alarms, bells, and PA system).
• Sense of Touch.
• Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

Work Environment

The work environment includes all areas of district buildings, grounds, vehicles, and any area where a district activity or function is taking place. Exposure to varying degrees of temperature relative to outdoor conditions.
