About the Role

Provides employees access to medical and health services with the objective of ensuring optimal safe, efficient, and productive operations and employee relations.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses via symptomatic treatment, medical assessment, first aid, emergency transport, medical referrals, and appropriate follow-up and rehabilitation.
• Provide and coordinate pre-placement physical exams, ongoing health assessments, employee health counseling, and wellness coaching.
• Administer the Hearing Conservation Program, including audiometric testing, health education, referral and follow-up, counseling on personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment selection, and evaluation of hearing protection compliance.
• Administer the Vision Testing Program, including vision testing, referral and follow-up, recommendations on PPE, and evaluation of visual capabilities to ensure compliance with cGMP standards.
• Provide occupational health services to plasma center locations across the U.S., including telephonic triage of injury events to determine the level of care needed.
• Create and maintain medical records, including employee medical files, industrial hygiene monitoring records, workers' compensation forms, disability records, medical surveillance records, and return-to-work notes.
• Administer the Respiratory Protection Program, including arranging on-site and off-site testing, periodic physical examinations, PPE education, and compliance evaluation.
• Collaborate with management on budgeting for Occupational Health Department activities, including comparison shopping and ordering supplies and equipment.
• Conduct new hire assessments and orientation as needed.
• Serve as a rotating on-call staff member for all U.S.-based operations.
• Work with the Return-to-Work Case Manager on case management, including claim evaluation, interaction with injured workers, HR, and medical providers, and managing lost-time claims to conclusion.
• Coordinate the Employee Assistance Program and work/life balance activities, serving as a liaison between employees and contractor counselors, and recommending program enhancements.
• Lead the immunization programs, administering vaccines (e.g., Hepatitis B, Rabies, Tetanus, Diphtheria) per CDC guidelines, conducting testing for further injections or titers, and managing vaccination records.
• Serve as a lab lead, supporting QA and R&D lab operations, performing venipuncture at nearby sites, and responding to on-site emergencies.
• Stay current with changes in occupational health by attending professional organization meetings and conducting regular rounds through manufacturing, plasma, and support areas.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in Nursing program.
• State licensure to practice nursing (North Carolina or California, depending on location).
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in occupational health nursing, medical assessment, emergency medical care, clinic work, or public health nursing.
• Certification via the American Board of Occupational Health Nursing (COHN-S or COHN) is preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of occupational health, CPR, emergency first aid, immunology, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene monitoring.
• Ability to serve as the site expert medical authority, making decisions based on written directives, legal requirements, precedent, and experience.
• Experience consulting with physicians on non-occupational and occupational medical care, work restrictions, and job placement.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for sensitive dialogues with employees, physicians, and management.
