About the role

This position involves administering medications, performing treatments, assisting with sick calls, managing chronic care clinics, responding to emergencies, conducting assessments, collecting specimens, preparing patients for transfer, participating in training, and assuming various nursing duties.

Responsibilities

• Administers medication (oral, intramuscular, and intravenous)
• Maintains patient medication compliance
• Performs or assists with treatments and sick calls
• Manages chronic care clinics
• Responds to emergencies, providing emergency care and CPR
• Conducts subjective and objective assessments, collects vital signs, and documents findings
• Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens
• Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities
• Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy
• Participates in work-related training and institution exercises
• Assists other healthcare staff and provides patient education
• Investigates and documents problem areas, participates in quality assurance activities, and provides training to new nurses and staff
• Serves as a resource for other healthcare and security staff, and leads clinical authority in absence of senior staff
• Participates in group programming and health/wellness initiatives
• Performs administrative duties and schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
• Assumes shift charge duties as assigned
• Assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies, and assists ancillary staff as needed

Requirements

Must have current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of Ohio.

Qualifications

Experience in urgent and emergency care, basic medical procedures, medical charting, direct support/direct care, problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, teamwork, and cultural awareness is preferred.

Benefits

The starting pay is approximately $91,000 based on location/shift assignments. Ohio has joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), allowing RNs to hold one multistate license in their primary state of residence while practicing in 37 other compact states. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness program.
