Nuclear Safety Specialist (3851)
Responsibilities
Support DOE nuclear safety oversight activities through review, evaluation, and implementation of nuclear safety programs.
Analyze and review safety basis documentation to ensure compliance with DOE nuclear safety requirements.
Lead and participate in formal safety basis review teams.
Prepare or review Safety Evaluation Reports (SERs) and related approval documentation.
Apply deterministic and probabilistic hazard analysis techniques to nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
Evaluate technical safety requirements and ensure safety controls are adequately defined and implemented.
Interface with DOE contractor representatives to support integrated safety management programs.
Requirements
- Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Required Training: Training on DOE standards and guides for nuclear safety management programs in accordance with 10 CFR 830, including: Safe harbor methodologies, Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) process.
- Required Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience developing, reviewing, and implementing safety basis documentation for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities; Experience serving as a Lead Reviewer in accordance with DOE‑STD‑1104‑2009; Preparation or formal review of at least 10 safety basis documents; Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting Oak Ridge site operations.
Qualifications
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
