About the role
Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking a Nuclear Safety Engineer to support operations and project activities as matrixed technical support staff. The role involves providing Safety Basis expertise and counsel, preparing and maintaining Safety Basis documents, performing hazard and accident analyses, and engaging with DOE site office representatives.
Responsibilities
- Safety Basis expertise and counsel on operations and project activities
- Preparation and maintenance of Safety Basis documents, including Facility Hazard Categorization, DSA, and TSRs
- Performance of hazard and accident analyses
- Research, calculations, and testing to validate safety analysis assumptions or controls
- Technical compliance with 10 CFR 830 Subparts A and B
- Application of the USQ process
- Evaluation of proposed nuclear facility alterations
- Mentorship and professional development opportunities
- Interface with external stakeholders
- Identification and development of Safety Basis implementation/compliance training
- Technical support for emergency preparedness and transportation safety analyses
- Assessment of Safety Basis and USQ programs
- Development and reporting of Safety Basis performance indicators
- Support of ISMS guiding principles and company safety culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Advanced degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in nuclear facility safety
- Proficiency in Hazards and Accident Analysis techniques and approaches
- Unreviewed Safety Question Determination Preparer, Reviewer, and Approver qualification
- Department of Energy (DOE) project experience desired
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong communication, verbal and written skills
- Ability to describe and interpret DOE Orders and Standards
- Ability to coordinate complex technical and regulatory issues
