About the role

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist Supervisor is licensed in all scopes of practice as defined by the State of California Radiologic Health branch and performs routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures using radiopharmaceuticals to assist in diagnosis and/or treatment in both the inpatient and outpatient environment.

Responsibilities

  • LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION
    • Supervises Employees In Their Daily Work Assignments
    • Maintains Equitable Distribution of Workload and Work Assignments for Employees
    • Trains Staff; Maintains Appropriate Documentation for Instruction, Equipment Orientation, and Department Competencies
    • Coaches and Instructs Technologist as Necessary in Correct Performance of Department Procedures, Image Quality, Patient Positioning, and Proper Use of Equipment
    • Encourages Teamwork and Cooperation; Facilitates a Positive Work Environment
    • Organizes the Schedule According to Degree of Urgency and Acuity Level
    • Maintains Patient Waiting Times to a Minimum by Exercising Appropriate Planning and Organization to Achieve Maximum Utilization of Resources
    • Maintains Flexibility in the Daily Routine to Handle Unexpected Problems
    • Maintains Adequate Staffing; Follows Procedures from One Shift to Another for Coverage of Sick and Tardy Employees
    • Sets Lunch and Break Relief
  • ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
    • Utilizes Proper Body Mechanics to Ensure Patient Safety Upon Moving and/or Transferring Patients and Equipment
    • Follows Established Radiation Safety Guidelines
    • Uses Appropriate Patient Shielding
    • Follows Established Department and Hospital Guidelines for Attendance and Tardiness
    • Adheres to All Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures
    • Remains Current and Compliant with All Safety Policies Reviewed on the Medical Center Annual Safety Training Module Located in the Online UC Learning Center Link
    • Adheres to All Radiation Safety Policies and Procedures
    • Provides Excellent Customer Service to Patients, Colleagues, Physicians, and Other Departments
    • Affirms That Work Environment is Clean and in Compliance with Infection Control and Environmental Health and Safety Standards
    • Maintains Professional, Neat Appearance and Adheres to the Department Dress Code Policy, Always Displaying Hospital Identification Badge
    • Adheres to the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) Nuclear Medicine Technologist Scope of Practice and Performance Standards
    • Adheres to the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Code of Ethics and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Nuclear Medicine Technologist Standards of Ethics
    • Adheres to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Practice Standards for Nuclear Medicine and Computed Tomography
  • INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
    • Demonstrates Competency in the Radiology Information System and Related Downtime Procedure, to Include the Proper Scheduling and Completion of Patient Exams
    • Demonstrates Competency in the Medical Center’s Current Electronic Health Record and Ordering Systems
    • Demonstrates Competency on the Nuclear Medicine Systems
    • Ensures Clinical Data is Correct and Appropriate for Specific Procedures Being Requested
    • Verifies Order in APEX Prior to Starting Every Procedure
    • Demonstrates Competency in the Radiology PACS System and Related Downtime Procedure
    • Completes All Exams in the Radiology Computer System Following the Procedure
    • Demonstrates Knowledge of the Incident Reporting System
    • Utilizes Hospital/Department Computer for Hospital Business Only and Logs Off Computers Upon Completion of Tasks
  • DEVELOPMENT
    • Assumes Responsibility and Accountability for Own Professional Growth and Practice
    • Attends Assigned Staff Development Activities
    • Participates in Cross-Training Activities When Necessary
    • Recognizes and Performs Duties Which Need to Be Performed Although Not Directly Assigned
    • Stays Current with Technical Changes in the Field of Nuclear Medicine and Radiology by Attending Professional Meetings, Seminars, or Participating in Other Learning Activities Related to the Field
    • Complies with the Department Expectations and Standards
    • Complies with Current ARRT, NMTCB, and CA State Accreditation Regulations Related to Continuing Education (CE) Requirements
  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
    • Affirms That the Performance and Documentation of the Daily, Monthly, or Annual Quality Control Tests Are Complete and Accurate
    • Reports Any Non-Compliance to the Appropriate Resource
    • Participates in Clinical and Research Protocol Development, Maintenance, Improvement, and Implementation
    • Ensures That Appropriate Documentation Occurs and Reporting of Incidents in a Timely Manner Regarding Patients, Employees, and Physicians
    • This Includes Patient and Employee Injuries
    • Participates in and Encourages Staff Participation in the Department’s Performance Improvement Activities
  • BUDGETARY
    • Maintains Adequate Level of Supplies in the Department
    • Orders Supplies When Necessary
    • Responsible for Knowledge and Compliance with the Budget and Staffing Standards
    • Processes Invoices and Maintains Payment Records for the Department
    • Identifies Opportunities for Cost Containment
    • Communicates Any Suggestions to Increase Productivity or Quality of Work
    • Affirms Patient Information and Billing Codes Are Appropriate
    • At the End of the Shift, All Billing is Complete

Qualifications

  • Current California CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(N) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills in Training and Guiding Employees on Radiology Modality Techniques
  • Motivates and Inspires Staff to Improve Services
  • Demonstrated Ability to Prioritize Effectively to Meet Deadlines in a Complex, Challenging Environment
  • Applied Background in Nuclear Medicine and Associated Modalities
  • Knowledge of Principles, Protocols, Terms, and Concepts
  • Skills Operating Imaging Equipment
  • Ability to Assist with Personnel Management Issues, Such as Performance Reviews, Disciplinary Actions, Etc.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills to Interact Effectively with Staff, Patients, and Other Medical Personnel
  • Knowledge of Relevant Regulatory Agency Standards
  • Proven Ability to Supervise and Coordinate Activities of Subordinate Staff, Establish Priorities, and Delegate Work Assignments
  • Solid Communication Skills Both Written and Verbal
  • Demonstrated Ability to Listen Actively and Counsel and Work in a Collaborative Manner
  • Computer Proficiency and Competency in MS Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical / Health Records
  • Two to Three Years of Supervisory Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field or Equivalent Experience
  • Knowledge of Medical Center, HR, and UC Policies and Processes
  • BLS (CPR)
