Nuclear Medicine Technologist (No Patient Care)

One Physics · Missouri, United States · 1 mo ago
HealthcareFull-time

Position Summary

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced imaging or radiation professional who wants to step out of direct patient care and build a long-term career in radiation safety and medical physics. You will begin by performing radioactive material (RAM) program audits for our clients, then progress under the mentorship of our physicists into diagnostic imaging equipment performance testing (“x-ray” QC) and, ultimately, a Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA) track.

What You’ll Do

  • Phase 1 — Radiation Safety / RAM Audits (Day One)
    • Conduct on-site radioactive material (RAM) license compliance audits at hospital and clinic client locations.
    • Perform sealed-source leak (wipe) testing, source inventory reconciliation, and area radiation/contamination surveys.
    • Verify survey meter calibration, check instrumentation, and confirm proper posting, labeling, and storage.
    • Review client radiation safety program documentation — dosimetry records, training records, RSO logs — for regulatory compliance.
    • Assist Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs) with recordkeeping, corrective actions, and reporting in accordance with NRC and applicable state regulations.
    • Document findings clearly and professionally, and communicate results to client contacts and One Physics physicists.

Who You Are

  • 5–10 years of experience — in a clinical imaging, nuclear medicine, or radiation-related role — for example a Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)), Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT/RT(N)), Radiation Therapist, Sonographer, or Health Physics Technician.
  • Solid working knowledge — of radiation principles, imaging modalities, and radiation dose and safety concepts.
  • Detail-oriented — and comfortable with documentation, audits, and regulatory recordkeeping.
  • Self-directed and dependable — in a field role, with strong professional communication skills when working directly with client staff.
  • Based in the Kansas City metro — with a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel daily to client sites (typically a 30–90 minute one-way commute).

Preferred But Not Required

  • Prior radiation safety, RSO support, or health physics experience.
  • Familiarity with NRC / Agreement State regulatory frameworks.

Travel & Physical Requirements

  • Reliable daily travel by vehicle to client sites across the KC metro and surrounding area.
  • Ability to transport and handle survey and test equipment (approximately 25–40 lbs).
  • Periods of standing, bending, and moving within clinical and equipment areas.

Why Join One Physics

  • Mentorship — from board-certified medical physicists and seasoned radiation safety professionals.
  • A defined career path — from radiation safety technician to Medical Physicist Assistant.
  • Training and certification support — to help you grow into the medical physics profession.
  • Predictable, daytime field work — no on-call patient care.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
