Nuclear Medicine Technologist I

At Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist I position completes a variety of routine nuclear medicine procedures of moderate complexity using radioactive substances. This role provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special nuclear medicine procedures while delivering exceptional patient care and adhering to radiation safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates effectively to ensure high-quality service during every patient encounter.
• Service
  • Performs nuclear medicine procedures, including positioning, physiology, and technical adjustments.
  • Modifies technical factors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizes procedure limitations.
  • Assists physicians during diagnostic or therapeutic interventions, including sterile technique.
  • Provides clear explanations and instructions to patients and family members.
• Quality/Safety
  • Follows safety standards, including ALARA principles, to protect patients, staff, and the public.
  • Maintains sterile techniques and ensures compliance with radiation safety and infection control.
  • Reports near misses and errors into the hospital’s patient safety system.
  • Performs daily imaging equipment quality control and reports malfunctions.
  • Proactively addresses patient reactions or potential outcomes using critical thinking.
• Finance
  • Documents patient procedures accurately and enters charges at the time of service.
  • Uses resources efficiently and manages time effectively.
• Growth/Innovation
  • Participates in department projects or shared governance activities.
  • Engages in continuing education and in-service programs to expand learning.

Requirements

• Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required certifications.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• One of the following certifications: ARRT-NMT or CNMT-NMTCB.

• Basic computer knowledge, including Hospital/Radiology Information Systems and Office software.

• Ability to adapt to multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

Schedule

• PRN (as needed) position.
• May require on-call duty during emergencies (e.g., disasters, severe weather).
• May require travel within or outside the Houston Metropolitan area.
