General Summary

Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments. Creates and enhances diagnostic images using a variety of imaging equipment and tools. Collects biologic specimens and prepares data for interpretation by physicians. Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical usage for regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • State license to practice
  • Zero to two years of related experience in a support role with limited complexity

Responsibilities

  • Explain medical procedures to patients and answer questions
  • Follow safety procedures to protect patients and staff from unnecessary radiation exposure
  • Prepare and administer radioactive drugs to patients
  • Monitor patients for unusual reactions to drugs
  • Operate imaging equipment
  • Maintain detailed procedure records
  • Follow safety and disposal radiation procedures
