About the role

Responsible for administration of nuclear imaging procedures, calculation, diagnostic, therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, and adjunctive medications using a variety of equipment and strictly adhering to relevant safety standards. Performs quality nuclear medicine imaging examinations through the application of advanced technical knowledge while maintaining strict attention to patient care in accordance with department policy and procedure. Carries out hot lab duties and performs a variety of nuclear medicine studies on inpatients and outpatients in all age groups from neonate to geriatric.

Understands Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) rules and regulations, practices radiation safety, safely operates all cameras and equipment in the department, and processes and sends data to required destinations via computer. Understands the theories and principles behind the equipment and tests performed in the nuclear medicine department. Prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals and therapeutic dosages under the direction of a physician. Employs radiation-detecting equipment to perform patient imaging procedures, describes procedures to patients, and answers questions. Implements radiation safety standards and quality assurance into daily work and monitors a patient's condition during the course of an imaging procedure. Collects patient information, analyzes data, and provides quality images for a physician to diagnose a patient.

Dependent on needs of facility and department, may also be responsible and cross-trained in performing positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET/CT) scans with thorough understanding of all processes related to PET/CT. Has ability to perform nuclear medicine procedures after appropriate orientation to the department. Able to work with growth and development needs of unique client populations. Demonstrates qualities of a team player. Professionalism and confidentiality will be adhered to at all times. Necessary to be open to change and technology advancements.

Responsibilities

• Administer nuclear imaging procedures, radiopharmaceuticals, and adjunctive medications.
• Perform quality nuclear medicine imaging examinations while adhering to safety standards and patient care protocols.
• Carry out hot lab duties and conduct nuclear medicine studies on patients of all ages.
• Understand and comply with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) rules and regulations.
• Practice radiation safety and safely operate all departmental cameras and equipment.
• Process and transmit imaging data via computer to required destinations.
• Prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals and therapeutic dosages under physician direction.
• Perform patient imaging procedures using radiation-detecting equipment, explain procedures, and answer patient questions.
• Implement radiation safety standards and quality assurance in daily work.
• Monitor patient condition during imaging procedures.
• Collect patient information, analyze data, and provide quality images for physician diagnosis.
• Cross-train in and perform positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET/CT) scans as needed.
• Adapt to growth and development needs of diverse patient populations.
• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and teamwork.
• Stay open to change and technological advancements.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology is required.
• Certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) required.
• For North Dakota (ND), licensed with the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (MIRT) board.
• Registered in positron emission tomography (PET) is helpful.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 60 days of employment; recertification as required.
• Obtain and maintain required department-specific competencies and certifications.

Pay

Salary range: $35.69 - $57.00 per hour.
