Nuclear Medicine Physician
This position is open to candidates at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level on either the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track or Clinician Teacher (CT) track.
About the Role
The Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a Nuclear Medicine Physician to join the growing Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging section. This faculty member will pursue an academic career in Molecular Imaging and Radiotheranostics, with opportunities for leadership roles within the department and at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. Additional clinical opportunities may be available in subspecialty radiology sections (Cardiovascular, Chest, Abdominal, etc.) for candidates eligible for American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in diagnostic radiology.
The Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Section includes experts in general nuclear medicine and PET imaging, theranostics, nuclear cardiology, PET/MR, prostate cancer imaging and therapy, and thyroid cancer imaging and treatment. The section performs therapies using unsealed sources, such as radioactive iodine for thyroid disease, 177Lu DOTATATE for neuroendocrine tumors, and 177Lu vipivotide tetraxetan for metastatic prostate cancer. The section is part of a major expansion of the UW theranostics program, utilizing clinically approved and investigational agents with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including PET/CT, PET/MR, and SPECT/CT.
The section offers a nuclear medicine residency and a PET/molecular imaging fellowship program. The Department of Radiology collaborates closely with the Department of Medical Physics, sharing over 70,000 square feet of facilities within the Wisconsin Institutes of Medical Research, including over $30 million in state-of-the-art equipment. Research support services include the Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility (RPF) and the Medical Imaging Research Services core, which provides regulatory, grant administration, technical consultation, and image analysis services.
Responsibilities
- Perform and interpret clinical nuclear medicine PET and nuclear cardiology studies.
- Evaluate and treat radiotheranostic patients with a high level of excellence.
- Engage in teaching programs for radiology residents, nuclear medicine residents, and medical students through lectures, clinical conferences, journal clubs, protocol reviews, and side-by-side instruction.
- Participate in the development of the nuclear medicine residency program and emerging theranostics training.
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary clinical and translational research in molecular imaging and radiotheranostics, including artificial intelligence, dosimetry, and novel translational radiopharmaceuticals.
- Teach medical students, residents, and fellows (all faculty).
- Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health (CHS track).
- Work collegially with other faculty members.
Requirements
- WI medical license by start date of position.
- Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine (ABNM) or American Board of Radiology (ABR) by start date of the position.
- Fellowship or residency training in Molecular Imaging by start date.
- MD or DO, or equivalent, required by start date of position.
Preferred Qualifications
- For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank on the CHS or CT track, candidates must meet criteria established by the department and outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion.
