About the role

The Nuclear Material Safeguards Oversight position supports the implementation of DOE Order 474.2, Material Control and Accountability, within Los Alamos National Laboratory's Material Balance Areas (MBAs).

Responsibilities

  • Support audits and appraisals of selected nuclear material accounting functions
  • Support physical inventory preparation activities and physical inventory conduct for assigned Material Balance Areas
  • Review nuclear material inventory reports to identify variances and support the investigation and resolution of inventory variances
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with customer organizations to ensure compliance with production and research operations
  • Interact with customer organizations daily to identify and coordinate recommended solutions to implementation issues
  • Identify and report Anomalous Conditions in accordance with procedures

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to gain consensus with various levels of internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience interpreting and applying complex requirements in a nuclear, high hazard, or similar environment
  • Ability to identify gaps in requirements implementation, recommend solutions, and gain consensus with stakeholders
  • Experience with inventory oversight in a nuclear or high hazard environment where accounting for high-value items/material is required
  • Intermediate skill and experience with Microsoft Excel for report generation, presentation, and trending

Desired Qualifications

  • Specialized knowledge and experience in nuclear or high hazard facility operations, Material Control and Accountability requirements, or applying complex requirements in a production environment
  • Experience interpreting inventory control data

Work Environment

This position may require off-normal hours such as shiftwork to include nights and weekends.
