Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain high-field NMR instruments (four 400 MHz and one 600 MHz spectrometers).
  • Perform structural characterization, purity assessments, concentration and binding studies.
  • Develop new NMR methods and prepare samples for analysis.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, including performing weekly liquid nitrogen fills and quarterly helium fills of NMR magnets.
  • Analyze and interpret spectral data from 1D, 2D, nD, and VT NMR experiments for structure verification, conformational analysis, chromatographic and isotopic purity analysis, and impurity identification.
  • Utilize an in-house compound tracking system to enter and review data.
  • Write papers, abstracts, summaries, reports, and presentations for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Perform both routine and specialized laboratory procedures of moderate to high complexity.
  • Maintain current knowledge of NMR spectroscopy and associated instrumentation, providing subject matter expertise to collaborators.
  • Assess, modify, and improve methods and procedures for experiments to meet specific needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and evaluate results for validity and scientific meaning.
  • Train staff on proper usage and maintenance of NMR spectrometers and mass spectrometry instrumentation.
  • Develop and document new procedures and implement novel methods for NMR sample preparation and analysis, including automation and high-throughput technologies.
  • Monitor and report safety issues and ensure proper retention of raw NMR data.
  • Meet weekly with lab members to present updates.
  • Perform and document activities supporting NMR spectroscopy operations, including instrument maintenance, equipment servicing, sample preparation, data acquisition, processing, analysis, and spectral interpretation.
  • Generate and organize scientific data, figures, and tables; conduct literature reviews; and prepare technical reports, manuscripts, presentations, posters, and operational manuals.
