Catawba Nuclear Plant is seeking an Electrical/I&C Component Engineer to join the Plant Engineering – Maintenance Support Engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the long-term reliability and performance of critical plant components—including batteries, chargers, inverters, breakers, and instrumentation—within a highly regulated and technically rigorous environment.

About the role

As part of the engineering team, the candidate will directly support the preventive maintenance program; monitor and trend equipment performance; provide technical oversight and engineering support to Operations and Maintenance organizations; and help establish the long-term strategic direction for plant equipment to ensure optimum reliability. This is the junior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Requirements

  • Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access.
  • This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.

Qualifications

Nuclear Engineer II

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience.

Nuclear Engineer I

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
  • Experience in the utility industry.
  • Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Schedule

  • 4-day 10-hour workweek (Mon-Thurs).
  • Hybrid work schedule: at least 2 of 4 days are in the office, the others may be taken at home.
