About the role

We are seeking a talented Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer to join our growing team serving clients in Oak Ridge, TN. This hybrid role involves performing criticality safety analyses, developing safety evaluations and controls, reviewing facility operations, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards. You will work closely with operations, engineering, and safety personnel to identify hazards, implement risk-reduction measures, and support safe and efficient nuclear facility operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support management in establishing and maintaining strong nuclear criticality safety (NCS) programs with technically sound analyses
  • Develop Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) documentation
  • Perform periodic facility walkdowns and collaborative team engagements
  • Develop and validate computer models to support NCS analyses
  • Establish operational limits and controls to maintain safe and efficient facility operations
  • Ensure NCS requirements are effectively implemented across all operational activities
  • Participate in audits, inspections, incident investigations, and design reviews
  • Conduct NCS assessments and reviews of work packages, procedures, work instructions, authorization basis documents, and operational documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in nuclear criticality safety or related nuclear engineering roles
  • Ability to obtain a DOE "Q" Clearance (Active "Q" clearance strongly preferred)
  • U.S. Citizenship with no dual citizenship

Qualifications

  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in technical work
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated expertise with MCNP and/or SCALE radiation transport calculation systems

Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with DOE facility operations or nuclear weapons complex background
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in nuclear safety
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical teams
  • Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering or related discipline
