About the role

Provides support to the coordinator in daily operations, oversees staff and youth, serves as a role model for Detention Counselors, and ensures compliance with OCFS and agency regulations. Identifies areas for program improvement, provides guidance, and assists with day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee staff, including assigning work, scheduling shifts, monitoring attendance, and conducting supervision meetings.
  • Ensure staff complies with agency, OCFS, and state rules and regulations.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with day-to-day operations, develop meeting agendas, ensure logs are completed accurately and timely, maintain required youth-to-staff ratios, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct training as needed and assist with performance evaluations and corrective counseling.
  • Plan and carry out activities designed to stimulate the emotional, physical, and social development of youth.
  • Act as a liaison between the facility and on-call Director during emergency crisis situations to ensure the safety of staff, youth, and facility security.
  • Ensure end-of-shift communication to promote continuity of care.
  • Ensure all fire drills are completed and protocols are properly followed.
  • Assist with completion of admission packets; admit and orient new youth to the program.
  • Oversee supervision of youth, including debriefing after crises and coordinating appointments.
  • Ensure daily activities are completed, including meal preparation, and serve as a backup for staff to provide direct care to youth as needed.
  • Contact the Justice Center, the County, and family within 24 hours of a significant critical incident.
  • Conduct post-crisis debriefing as needed.
  • Determine appropriate supervision plans for the safety of youth.
  • Adhere to required documentation standards.
  • Assist in arranging and supervising family contact and visitation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a residential detention facility or short-term residential facility with youth required; more than 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible, rotating schedule.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per agency policy; travel is required.
  • TCI, First Aid/CPR certifications required.
  • Must be able to successfully complete training to administer medication under the direction of facility or designee.
  • Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.

Pay

$22.50/hour to $24.50/hour.
