NSD Shift Supervisor (5385)

This position is currently located onsite in Canaan, NY. In the coming months, the worksite will be relocated to Glenmont, NY. To support employees during this transition, eligible new hires may receive one hour of paid travel time for each workday, mileage reimbursement for eligible miles beyond the normal commute, and a $500 monthly travel stipend during the transition period.

About the Role

The Non-Secure Detention Shift Supervisor is responsible for providing support to the coordinator in daily operations, overseeing staff and youth, serving as a role model for Detention Counselors, ensuring compliance with OCFS and agency regulations, providing guidance, and identifying areas for program improvement.

Responsibilities

• Oversee staff, including assigning work, scheduling shifts, and monitoring attendance; conduct supervision meetings.
• Ensure staff complies with agency, OCFS, and state rules and regulations.
• Assist the Program Coordinator with day-to-day operations, develop meeting agendas, ensure all logs are completed accurately and timely, maintain required ratios, and identify areas of improvement.
• Conduct training as needed and assist with performance evaluations and corrective counseling.
• Plan and carry out activities designed to stimulate the emotional, physical, and social development of youth.
• Act as a liaison between the facility and on-call Director in emergency crisis situations to ensure the safety of staff, youth, and facility security.
• Ensure end-of-shift communication with upcoming shifts to promote continuity of care.
• Ensure all fire drills are completed and protocols are properly followed.
• Assist with completion of admission packets; admit and orient new youth to the program.
• Oversee supervision of youth, including debriefing with youth after crises and coordinating appointments.
• Ensure daily activities are completed, including meal preparation; serve as a backup for staff and provide direct care to youth as needed.
• Contact the Justice Center, the County, and family within 24 hours of a significant critical incident.
• Conduct post-crisis debrief menu packets as needed.
• Determine an appropriate supervision plan for the safety of a youth.
• Adhere to required documentation standards.
• Assist in the arrangement and supervision of family contact and visitation.

Requirements

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma required; Associate degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a residential detention facility or short-term residential facility with youth is required; more than 1 year of experience is preferred.
• Must be able to work a flexible, rotating schedule.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license; travel is required.
• TCI, First Aid/CPR certifications required.
• Successful completion of training to administer medication under the direction of facility or designee.
• Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.
