About the Role

This position works in a collaborative model including residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for outpatient clinic patients. The role operates under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician and in association with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators in planning, implementing, and evaluating medical and nursing care. Responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching residents and medical students, staff development and education, patient education, and discharge planning.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduation from an approved Physician Assistant Training Program (for Physician Assistant)
  • Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice (for NP)
  • Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner certification (ANCC or AANPCP) (for NP)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Eligibility for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing (for NP) or State Board of Medical Examiners (for PA)
  • License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice and NCCPA certification (for PA)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of related working experience

Skills

  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications, various software packages, and keyboard
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at department and campus/system levels
  • Reliable transportation for travel between facilities
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekends, holidays, on-call availability)

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes approved medical practices in delivering patient care
  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and age-related criteria
  • Maintains an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes; may develop research methodology
  • Provides education to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community
  • Adapts behavior to specific patient populations, including privacy, communication style, and explanation of services
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Ensures compliance with current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory requirements

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and negligible to 10 pounds constantly
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands; manual dexterity required
  • Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue
  • Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials
