Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach and case management to unsheltered homeless individuals, focusing on Safe Parking and Supportive Services to Veterans clients.
  • Utilize New Beginnings' integrated approach for Street-Based Outreach to assess client needs, provide immediate interventions, and connect clients to appropriate services.
  • Perform screening assessments, make appropriate referrals, and connect clients to social services.
  • Manage substantial documentation requirements related to client services.
  • Represent New Beginnings in a diplomatic and professional manner with partners, funders, law enforcement, and other agencies.
  • Participate in a cross-agency, multidisciplinary approach to engage the hardest-to-serve homeless individuals and connect them to services.
  • Travel between different sites within Santa Barbara County, generally co-located in the Santa Maria office.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License at time of appointment.
  • Experience in a social services setting with working knowledge of case management systems and planning techniques.
  • Knowledge of housing resources, subsidy programs, entitlements, and services for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Experience working with homeless individuals and families is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders is highly desirable.
  • Bilingual Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check and meet insurance carrier driving requirements.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Frequent fieldwork in outdoor environments, including vehicle encampments.
  • Ability to observe client behavior, recognize changes, and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends as program needs require.

Pay

Starting salary is $23 – $28 per hour, with medical and dental benefits provided, 403(b) contribution and matching, and generous paid time off.

Schedule

Work hours are Monday – Friday, 9-5, although there will be some nighttime and weekend hours on occasion to attend community events, conduct early morning or late-night collaborative outreach efforts, or attend to emergent client and administrative needs.
