Responsibilities
- Lead the North Central Region Transportation Business Group in executing the 5-year strategic plan and delivering the annual plan.
- Support Area Transportation leadership in conforming to HDR’s Management Operating Agreement (MOA), Quality Management System (QMS), and other policies.
- Serve as Reviewer or Approver for MOA actions.
- Assist Area Transportation Leadership with workload balancing, utilization management, retention, and recruiting.
- Engage with Area, Market Sector, and Professional Services leaders in key staff recruiting.
- Approve new position requisitions and offers in Taleo.
- Develop and achieve the Annual Plan for Net Fee Billing (NFB), Net Fee Earned (NFE), Operating Profit (OP), and supporting metrics.
- Lead the development of the Annual Financial Plan for the Transportation Business Group (TBG) in the region.
- Partner with the Regional Director of Operations on review/approval of MOA actions, requisitions, and offers.
- Collaborate with TBG Market Sector Directors and Area Leadership on Client Management Plans.
- Co-supervise Regional Market Sector Leaders.
- Partner with TBG Professional Services and Area Leadership on project delivery, staffing, workload balancing, and quality practices.
- Co-supervise Regional Business Class, Practice Group, Cross Sector, and Professional Services Leaders.
- Partner with TBG Client Development and Strategic Pursuits on identifying and executing strategic pursuits.
- Work with the TBG Alternative Delivery Director to establish and maintain contractor/developer relationships and pursue Alternative Delivery (AD) projects.
- Support Regional Directors of Operations (RDO) and Area TBG Leadership on salary planning (annual, mid-year, and off-cycle), incentive compensation, spot bonuses, and sign-on bonuses.
- Coordinate nominations of Regional TBG staff for Officer, Professional Associate, Associate, Fellowship, and training programs (e.g., Boost, Career Connect, TaLon).
- Collaborate with RDO, Area Managers, and Area TBG Leadership to implement organizational structures aligned with Area TBG program size.
- Typically serve as the Direct Supervisor for Area Business Development Leaders (BDL), Regional Market Sector Leaders, and Regional Business Class/Practice Group/Professional Services/Cross Sector Leaders.
- Typically serve as the Matrix Supervisor for Area Business Group Managers (BGM).
- Establish a recurring in-person schedule with Area leadership.
- Attend project reviews for designated critical projects.
- Serve as Principal-in-Charge for selected projects or contracts.
- Foster a collaborative culture across Areas, Regions, Market Sectors, Professional Services, and Business Groups.
- Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with strategic partner firms.
- Partner with Area Leadership and Strategic Pursuit Leads to drive the successful capture of key opportunities.
- Support Area Leadership in engaging with industry organizations (e.g., ACEC, ASCE, AASHTO) to advocate for policies aligned with HDR and industry interests.
- Maintain and reinforce relationships with key or specified agencies.
- Participate in the annual salary and incentive planning process with Area Leadership, RDO, and TBG Leadership.
- Attend Phase 4 Regional Alignment meetings and regional budget meetings; present at Management Updates.
- Present key TBG promotions at annual award ceremonies.
- Attend key regional conferences to promote HDR to clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a professional field, Architecture, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience leading diverse teams.
- Works cooperatively with other regional business group directors, regional and local office managers, technical and marketing directors.
- Strong business skills and commitment to HDR values.
- Active participation in our employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of experience.
- Residency within the North Central region or willingness to relocate to an Area within the region.
- Senior leadership experience in a Transportation Business Group, related operations, and/or sectors including Highways, Transit, Aviation, Maritime, Freight Rail, and/or Federal Transportation.

Pay
The expected compensation range for this position varies by skills, experience, education, and geographical location:
- Colorado: $183,680 – $288,640
- Minnesota: $165,312 – $275,520
- Illinois: $183,680 – $288,640
