Noninvasive Cardiovascular Technician

Job Description

Under supervision, the Cardiovascular (CV) Technician operates equipment to measure and record heart action by monitoring and graphically tracing electrical activity occurring during the heartbeat.

• Obtains information for the electrocardiograph records, which include patient identification, history, and medication use.
• Escorts patient to the treatment room or wheels equipment to the patient’s bedside.
• Explains test procedures and gives instructions to patients.
• Attaches electrodes from specified body areas to leads from the electrocardiograph machine.
• Takes heart tracings machine. Recognizes emergencies and notifies physician if necessary.
• Identifies abnormal heart rhythms on tracings.
• Marks tracing paper to indicate electrode positions, pastes/labels tracings on mountings for physician’s interpretation.
• Cleans and maintains equipment, maintains supply levels and replaces defective stylus.
• Performs clerical tasks as needed.
• Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.
