Non-Profit Accountant

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Nonprofit Accountant to support the financial operations of a mission-driven organization. This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing the general ledger, preparing financial reports, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Perform account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
• Monitor and track restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Assist with grant accounting, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance requirements.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and investment accounts.
• Support annual audits and preparation of schedules requested by auditors.
• Prepare and file required nonprofit reports and supporting documentation.
• Assist with budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipts as needed.
• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and organizational policies.
• Partner with program managers and leadership to provide financial reporting and analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
• Strong understanding of fund accounting and grant reporting.
• Experience with month-end close, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
