Non-Licensed Optician

Position Summary

Assists members in choosing and ordering eyeglasses, uses a computer to process orders, fits eyeglasses, and dispenses eyeglasses and contacts under the supervision of a Licensed Optician. Follows department procedures for stocking and cleaning while providing a high level of member service.

Responsibilities

• Assist members in selecting eyeglass frames and lens options appropriate to the prescription, under supervision of a Licensed Optician.
• Measure members for pupillary distance using a pupilometer and observe line of sight to determine bifocal placement, under supervision of a Licensed Optician.
• Enter members' orders into the computer system and place special orders to outside vendors by telephone, under supervision of a Licensed Optician.
• Ring up orders and over‑the‑counter merchandise, receive accurate payment, make change, and process checks, credit, and debit charges according to proper procedures.
• Check contact lenses and completed eyeglasses against the prescription, under supervision of a Licensed Optician, prior to dispensing to members.
• Fit and adjust eyeglasses to members using hand tools, a frame warmer, and finger bending.
• Order equipment, merchandise, and supplies by keying them into the computer; record receipt of special orders from outside vendors.
• Follow safety and security procedures.
• Stock merchandise and supplies; adhere to department procedures and standards for production, record keeping, merchandising, and product storage.
• Clean the department by spraying, wiping, and mopping; empty trash, operate trash compactor and cardboard baler.
• Ensure proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials.
• Operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery as needed.
• Assist with department duties and support other warehouse departments as necessary.
