Non-Instructional Assistant (Lunchroom) (Middle School)

About the Role

Responsible for student supervision in the hallways, cafeteria and during recess.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises students at recess, during lunchtime, and in hallways.
  • Maintains a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts.
  • Directs movement of groups in a safe and organized manner to and from recess in addition to monitoring students in hallways.
  • Assists students in cafeteria clean-up.
  • Participates in in-service training as directed.
  • Demonstrates understanding of students’ needs.
  • Demonstrates initiative and creativity with students.

Requirements

  • High School diploma; preference given to those having a minimum of two years college.
  • Previous experience with children, especially at-risk students or students with disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, students, parents and/or administrators.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
  • Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • The employee is occasionally required to use hands to operate office equipment; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work both inside as well as outside for recess periods.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The employee must work with parents, staff, students and administrators continuously meeting multiple demands from several people.
  • The employee is continuously responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

Pay

Starting rate: $16.75/hour

Schedule

Part-time, 10 months
10:30 am to 2:00 pm daily
