Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse caseload from inception through resolution.
  • Draft pleadings, answer written discovery, take depositions, and participate in arbitrations and trials.
  • Take and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to develop sound case strategies.
  • Communicate with clients, the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
  • Provide regular and timely updates to clients on case status, strategy, and potential outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with partners, associates, and legal staff.
  • Manage a book of business while adhering to billing and budget requirements.
  • Ability to travel for court, client meetings, etc.
  • Handle trials on a first chair basis.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience, preferably in defense litigation.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • NY bar license, active and in good standing, required.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, judge, co-counsel and opposing counsel.
  • Proven track record of success in courtroom appearances, depositions, and settlement negotiations.
  • Proven track record of first chair trial experience through jury selection to verdict.
  • Demonstrated interest in defense litigation.
  • Clerkship experience, a plus.
  • Ability to juggle and manage a robust book of business.
  • Experience in third-party insurance coverage is a plus.

Qualifications

Must be a NY licensed attorney with at least 15 years of experience in defense litigation.

Skills

Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.

Excellent communication skills with clients, judges, co-counsel, and opposing counsel.

Proven track record of success in courtroom appearances, depositions, and settlement negotiations.

Proven track record of first chair trial experience through jury selection to verdict.

Demonstrated interest in defense litigation.

Clerkship experience, a plus.

Experience in third-party insurance coverage is a plus.
