About the role

Pima Community College is seeking a qualified and dedicated Community Health Worker (CHW) Instructor to provide training and supervision for individuals pursuing CHW certification. The instructor will deliver high-quality instruction aligned with state standards, mentor students throughout their training, and help prepare a skilled workforce to address community health needs. The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel.

This position has 2 vacant positions and will establish a qualified applicant pool for part-time temporary positions. Applications will remain active for 6 to 12 months and selected candidates may be contacted as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise. Placement in the pool does not guarantee employment. The applicant pool will be refreshed annually.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom and/or lab-based instruction in accordance with CHW certification requirements and program curriculum
  • Supervise and mentor students to support successful program completion
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments to enhance student learning
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state standards (R9-16-802 C & D)
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and training hours
  • Collaborate with program leadership and faculty to support continuous improvement
  • Model professionalism and demonstrate best practices in the CHW field

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Hold one of the following combinations of education and instructional experience:
    • High school diploma or GED, plus 250 hours providing training and instruction related to CHW practices
    • Diploma or degree in public health, medical, or behavioral health disciplines plus 150 hours providing training and instruction related to CHW practices
    • Degree in public health, medical, or behavioral health disciplines with instructional hours as follows:
      • Associate’s degree + 200 hours
      • Bachelor’s degree + 150 hours
      • Master’s degree + 100 hours
      • Doctorate + 50 hours

  • Strong knowledge of community health practices, public health principles, and health education strategies
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Organizational skills to manage classroom activities, records, and student progress
  • Ability to model cultural competency and sensitivity when addressing community health issues
  • Commitment to mentoring and supporting students pursuing careers as Community Health Workers
  • Flexibility and problem-solving skills to adapt to varied teaching and learning environments

Pay

$6,366 per class

Schedule

Up to 19.5 hours per week, flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends
