About the role
Teach assigned grade-level academic classes to prepare students for success in high school and college. Help students integrate reading and writing skills, facilitate communicative study and time management skills, and assist in the development of test-taking strategies. Build student confidence, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Create a learning environment that fosters self-motivation and academic improvement.
Responsibilities
- Help students integrate reading and writing skills.
- Facilitate students' communicative study and time management skills.
- Aid in the development of test-taking strategies.
- Develop academic skills in preparation for state mandated tests (NJSLA, PSAT, SAT/ACT).
- Participate in the planning and delivery of team-teaching and thematic lesson plans.
- Submit typed lesson plans on time and in accordance with NJCB requirements.
- Develop and implement Consortium/GEAR UP Curriculum based on New Jersey Common Core Standards.
- Maintain accurate academic records and files.
- Assist in the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement tests as assigned.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related field required; or in limited circumstances, the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: 2 years of related experience.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge bases.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, principles, and concepts effectively in individual or small group settings.
- Demonstrated computer literacy skills at an intermediate level including ability to utilize and apply Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as specialized software programs and computer applications essential to the learning process.
- Knowledge of information research strategies.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and faculty.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to facilitate discussion and learning in individual, small group, and lab/instructional settings.
- Fluency in a second language may be required.
- Discipline-specific skills test may be required.
