Responsibilities
- Provide safety and security services to the community
- Perform patrol duties to ensure public safety
- Investigate crimes and assist in apprehending suspects
- Direct traffic and transport prisoners as needed
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in performing tasks
Requirements
- United States Citizenship
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Pass the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT)
- Pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT)
- Pass the Swim Test
- Pass an Oral Board Examination
- Pass a Polygraph Examination
- Pass a Psychological Screening (Law)
- Pass an Extensive Background Investigation
- Pass a Chief and/or Command Staff Review
- Pass an Extensive Medical Evaluation
- Pass Drug Detection by Urinalysis Test
- Meet Current State Training Requirements
- Have a Stable Work History
- Have a Valid Driver's License and Acceptable Driving Record
- Exercise Discretion and Have Good Moral Character
- Not Have Convictions for Felony Crimes or Incidents of Violence
- Not Have Dishonorable Military Discharge
Qualifications
- Minimum 21 years of age at the time of state certification
- Associates Degree or Higher or Veteran with Honorable Discharge may waive some requirements
