According to the prescribed policies and procedures of the organization including all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and under the general supervision of the Charge Nurse, this position provides direct care to residents, assists with activities of daily living, and encourages residents to maintain or reach the highest level of function.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and assists with all resident direct care needs and comforts of daily living, including but not limited to:
    • Lifting, turning, positioning, transporting
    • Bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, and grooming
    • Answering and responding to call lights in a timely and professional manner
    • Providing restorative care, including range of motion, ambulation, and bowel and bladder training
  • Provides additional resident care needs and comforts, including but not limited to:
    • Maintaining cleanliness of resident’s room (daily cleaning, deep cleaning, discharge cleaning)
    • Engaging residents in activities of interest
    • Providing restorative nursing programs to maintain activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Communicates professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing, following written and verbal directions.
  • Provides exemplary customer service to residents, peers, families, managers, and visitors.
  • Reports any changes in physical or mental conditions on a timely basis.
  • Assists nurses with assigned tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Measuring and recording vitals
    • Gathering weights, measures, and other documentation
    • Making beds, cleaning closets, and organizing resident living areas
    • Assisting with new admissions
    • Assisting in the training and orientation of new staff
  • Adheres to Resident Rights guidelines, helps residents exercise their rights, and reports complaints to the charge nurse or supervisor.
  • Documents resident information timely, accurately, and confidentially according to electronic medical record procedures.
  • Adheres to all safety and compliance policies and procedures, demonstrates proper use of equipment, and reports equipment needs or repairs.
  • Practices universal precautions, follows infection control protocols, and uses protective equipment.
  • Performs food service functions, including:
    • Preparing residents for meals, serving food, and assisting with eating
    • After-meal care, passing snacks and fresh water/ice
    • Recording food/fluid intake and noting changes in eating habits
  • Demonstrates a positive, professional manner, manages time efficiently, and collaborates in policy creation and problem-solving.
  • Adheres to all policies, procedures, and regulations, including corporate compliance, drug-free workplace, and safe work practices.
  • Completes all annual education requirements, including compliance, privacy, security, and HIPAA training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred or currently enrolled in a program to achieve preferred education.
  • Two to four years of experience preferred.
  • Good communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and the World Wide Web.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to noise, odors, illness, infection, and physical contact with disruptive residents.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying (10-25 lbs.), stooping, standing, pushing, pulling, and walking.
  • Sometimes sitting; rare climbing and driving.
  • General supervision: Employee generally operates independently but checks with supervisor when in doubt.
  • Moderate monetary responsibility with consequences of errors.
