Description
The Non-CDL Driver reports to the Assistant Manager and works in the Delivery department. This position plays a key role in ensuring customers receive building materials in excellent condition, on time, and with exceptional service.
Essential Functions
- Safely operate a flatbed or box truck in compliance with DOT, state, and company regulations
- Load, secure, and deliver building materials to customers' job sites
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns
- Verify that delivery tickets match materials loaded
- Unload materials at job sites, ensuring products are handled with care and delivered to the agreed location
- Pick up returns from job sites and complete required documentation
- Accurately complete delivery logs, including mileage, time, and delivery details
- Relay accurate messages between customers and the company
- Accurately count inventory and assist with general yard duties when not making deliveries
- Immediately report all accidents, injuries, or property damage to the Yard Foreman or General Manager
- Adhere to all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Ability to operate delivery vehicles safely in all weather and traffic conditions
- Experience with flatbed and box truck driving for work purposes
- Understanding of load securement and safe material handling
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Good communication skills and customer service mindset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must maintain a clean driving record and comply with DOT requirements
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English effectively
- Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to wear all applicable PPE properly
- Must pass a background check and DOT drug test and DOT physical
Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Valid driver’s license with no major moving violations
- 2+ years proven experience with similar equipment and environment is preferred
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs frequently; occasionally up to 100 lbs
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, reach, and climb
- Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively
- Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination
- Must regularly be able to reach overhead
- Must regularly be able to sit, squat, bend, twist, and stand
- Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold
- Good vision and hearing (with or without correction) to operate vehicles safely
