Non CDL Local Delivery Truck Driver

About the Role

Drivers run daily routes with frequent stops, loading packages onto hand trucks and unloading product at each designated stop. The candidate will operate in a cross-dock model, picking up a loaded truck from a nightly delivery and returning the empty truck at the end of the route. May occasionally assist with loading trucks, palletizing product, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Run routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times.
• Unload product from trailer by hand or using a hand cart, placing it in designated customer storage areas, including navigating ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather conditions.
• Frequently lift, push, or move product weighing 1-75 pounds (up to 100 pounds); reach up to 72” to stack/unstack pallets; constantly bend and twist while loading/unloading.
• Verify delivery of items with customers and obtain proper signatures; resolve discrepancies or errors on invoices.
• Report missing items (shorts) or customer complaints professionally to management.
• Handle company equipment properly, follow driver safety rules, and perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections per DOT regulations and Sysco policies.
• Communicate effectively with customers, management, and other departments regarding routing, safety, and customer relations.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• One-year route delivery experience or applicable background driving a straight truck.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred; ability to read/speak English for traffic signs, public communication, and record-keeping.
• Must be 21 years or older with no drug/alcohol violations in the past 3 years and no open violations in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Ability to operate vehicles in varied traffic/weather conditions and meet productivity/error goals.
• Strong customer relations, problem-solving, and independent work-planning skills.
• Basic arithmetic skills; experience handling money preferred.

Physical Demands

• Frequent lifting of product up to 50 lbs. (infrequent lifting up to 80 lbs.).
• Frequent bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, and climbing on/off the truck.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and all weather conditions.

Other Information

If you hold a valid Class A or B CDL, you will be designated as a CDL driver, subject to DOT regulations, including participation in the DOT Drug and Alcohol Random Testing Program.
