(NNP) Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - Per Diem - 140034

About the role

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner provides primary care for the high-risk neonate and participates in the development and implementation of educational programs related to the high-risk neonate and their family.

Responsibilities

• Functions from the time of birth of the high-risk infant through their discharge and practices in collaboration with and under the direct supervision of an attending neonatologist.
• Plans and presents in-service education to large groups in the community and within the medical center.
• Writes and implements policies and procedures for the care of the high-risk neonate.
• Participates in and may initiate research studies.
• Directs the management of patient care for neonates by 4th-year medical students and orients and directs patient care for neonates by interns during their rotation.
• Manages a case load of critically ill neonates.
• Acts as a liaison, collaborating with other departments within the medical center, community agencies, and consultants.
• Supports the development of guidelines and employee and student orientation packets.
• Teaches courses on various neonatal care topics to medical students and interns.
• Leads formal patient care conferences and leads rounds in the absence of the Fellow or attending.
• Participates in external transports of critical newborns to the medical center and leads resuscitation efforts during high-risk deliveries.

Requirements

• Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
• Certified California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.
• NCC Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) certification.
• BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
• NRP certification.
• Minimum two (2) years of recent work experience as a licensed Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in a level III/IV facility.
• Experience must include attending high-risk deliveries.
• Proven knowledge and skill in performing a comprehensive neonatal assessment and general medical examination, identifying medical problems, and formulating an appropriate plan of action.
• Must be able to see patients independently.
• Experience providing patient education and counseling, and developing and implementing long and short-range treatment plans.
• Strong computer skills and knowledge of PCIS/Epic for retrieval of patient data.
• Knowledge of study formats, with the ability to edit charts and resolve inconsistencies.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Experience interacting positively, constructively, and effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and the general public.
• Experience in performing effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload and frequent interruptions.

Qualifications
