Purpose

Responsible for the admission and registration of incoming patients at Riverview, a 62-bed psychiatric hospital in Texarkana, Arkansas, providing comprehensive inpatient care for children, adolescents, and adults with behavioral health and chemical dependency issues. Riverview Behavioral Health is part of the Acadia Healthcare system.

Essential Functions

  • Greet and search new patients and those transporting patients upon arrival.
  • Manage clerical duties including paperwork, data entry, engaging with insurance companies over claims, and answering phones.
  • Complete admission paperwork, explain forms prior to patient signing, notify clinical lead of patient's arrival, and escort patient and documentation to the appropriate location.
  • Efficiently and accurately complete the admission process and distribute paperwork to notify staff of patient arrival/transfer.
  • Ensure all required patient information is received and processed, and necessary appointments are made with proper behavioral or medical health personnel.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers; acknowledge and work to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met.
  • Recognize patient safety as a top priority and demonstrate a sense of urgency related to its importance.
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure the well-being of patients in a positive, supportive, structured environment.
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at 15-minute intervals as noted in special precautions or individualized supervision guidelines.
  • Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in patients' medical records and inpatient registration or other technology systems.
  • Assist in providing a safe, secure, clean, and comfortable environment for patients, significant others, and staff.
  • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to admissions staff.
  • May obtain patient's vital signs, height, and weight as assigned and document in the patient record.
  • Engage patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
  • Assist incoming patients/family members with contraband searches and itemizing belongings and valuables when needed.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation; assist with follow-up and paperwork on incidents and events.
  • May provide transportation for the patient or coordinate transportation with an appropriate staff member.
  • Perform data entry and other functions and tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Social Services field is a plus.
  • One or more years' experience in healthcare preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.
