Night Shift Superintendent - Charlotte, NC
About the role
Messer Construction Co. is an award-winning construction manager and general contractor specializing in complex commercial building projects. As an employee-owned company, Messer is a leading builder in healthcare and higher education sectors with eleven regional offices across the Midwest and Southeast. We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to join our team in the Charlotte, NC region.
The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise and coordinate field operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, with high quality, effective LEAN planning and scheduling, cost management, collaboration with stakeholders, and superior client service.
This position is dedicated to overnight construction operations, with typical working hours from approximately 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, though schedules may vary based on project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support client, designer, subcontractor, and vendor relationships.
- Implement and drive our Zero-Injury Safety program.
- Understand drawings, specifications, and terms/conditions of owner contracts and subcontracts.
- Deliver built-in quality using our three-phase quality control process.
- Develop and maintain worksite logistics.
- Drive project schedule including day-to-day supervision and coordination of construction activities.
- Facilitate daily Site-Wide Huddles and Plan of the Day Meetings.
- Proactively monitor and control project costs.
- Leverage construction management and project management systems.
- Support the professional development and mentoring of Messer staff.
- Support the interviewing and hiring process, as needed.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience operating as a commercial construction Superintendent or in a directly comparable role.
- Advanced education, training, or certifications in construction management disciplines.
- Demonstrable excellence in leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of contemporary construction technologies and systems (e.g., AutoDesk Build, Procore, Phoenix).
- Proven experience utilizing contemporary construction processes and project management systems (e.g., Lean Construction, Flow scheduling, 3-Phase Control).
- Proven experience maintaining compliance with construction safety policies and standards.
- Experience interviewing and hiring, managing direct reports, and supporting the performance management process.
