Night Shift / Production support Engineer

About the role

Vega Consulting is staffing a Night Shift / Production Support Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity. The position requires a strong background in production and monitoring support. Candidates must be located in DC, VA, WV, MD, PA, or NC, with travel to Reston, VA required at minimum once per month.

Schedule

• Initial training and knowledge transfer onsite for one to two weeks
• Then remote night shift assignment
• Rotating weekend shifts approximately once a month

Responsibilities

• Handle job abends
• Respond to UI alerts
• Manage distributed infrastructure issues
• Troubleshoot Linux server related problems
• Perform application shakeouts
• Support B2B integration processes
• Communicate technical requirements to all levels of expertise

Requirements

• Advanced hands-on experience with production support and monitoring
• Advanced knowledge of programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, C, Python)
• Advanced excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient knowledge of cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure)
• Knowledge of database technologies (e.g., cloud SQL, Oracle, MongoDB, PostgreSQL)
• Advanced fundamental knowledge of software engineering best practices, agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines
• Advanced knowledge of test-first practices including TDD for unit tests and BDD for automated acceptance tests
• Advanced strong experience with deployment, continuous integration, continuous testing, continuous delivery processes and tools; expertise in CI/CD tools and frameworks
• Advanced knowledge of code quality and promotion practices
• Advanced proficiency in establishing and maintaining good working relationships
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC)
• Advanced proficiency with integrating complex and/or existing systems
• Strong background in Java production support preferred
