Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and inspect quality parts on CNC machines (lathes, milling machines) to meet close tolerances and maximize efficiencies.
- Study and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measure and mark dimensions and reference points on materials or work pieces as a guide for machining.
- Detect equipment malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjust machines within capabilities to ensure quality production.
- Report machine malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
- Assist in solving complex plant operating problems and cost-reduction projects.
- Operate forklifts and lifting devices for movement of parts.
- Communicate with supervisors, engineers, production control, quality, and shop personnel to resolve machining or quality issues.
- Maintain equipment and work area cleanliness; perform basic preventative maintenance.
- Enforce all Company Health, Safety, and Environmental rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2-3 years’ experience operating CNC machines (lathes, milling machines) in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Advanced knowledge of reading drawings and specifications, including geometric tolerancing and dimensions.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, algebra) for calculating material fabrication.
Skills
- Knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments (calipers, ID & OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, scales).
- Familiarity with tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts used on various machines.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to walk; reach with hands or arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles; moderate noise levels in the work environment.
