About the Role
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Night Custodian cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including mopping, dusting, trash removal, and other related duties.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the Y facility is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
- Performs wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, and general cleaning.
- Handles seasonal activities such as lawn care and snow removal.
- Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
- Records and reports all needed repairs; performs repairs as directed.
- Ensures the YMCA building and property are secure during shifts and reports incidents or hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
- Replenishes supplies such as soap and paper towels.
- May set up furniture for events.
- Performs deep cleaning or other custodial projects, including carpet cleaning, carpet shampooing, steam cleaning, equipment moving, and furniture moving.

Requirements
- Six months or more of related experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
- Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
- Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
- Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in various forms (dry, liquid, powder, spray, aerosol).
- Ability to work in conditions that create dirt and dust.
- Ability to perform maintenance tasks involving reaching (semi to full-reach overhead), crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, and working in confined spaces (underground, overhead, or at ground level).
- Ability to twist the waist, shoulders, and legs, and to lie on stomach and/or back.
